How to Buy the Right Equipment for your needs:
Electric | Single Stage | Two-Stage
The first questions one of our sales reps would ask you, “what is the type of surface area you will be clearing?
If you have a GRAVEL driveway you will need a two-stage snow blower.
With a two-stage snow blower the snow enters through the auger in the front, which lifts the snow up into the second stage and throws the snow out the chute.
The auger doesn’t touch the surface so you won’t pickup gravel from your drive and throw it out the chute. The skids are usually adjustable for your needs.
Most units have 4 cycle engines and so you don’t mix the oil and gas. Typically these units are self-propelled and can come with different horsepower and augers sizes to handle very large areas.
If you have a PAVED area you can use a single stage.
With a single-stage snow blower they clear down to the pavement and a drive shouldn’t typically be longer than 60 feet long. There are exceptions to this of course as we have many contractors that use these for 6 hours at a time.
Many people have the misconception that single stage snow blowers don’t blow much snow but that is not the case especially with the Toro single stage. Some Toro single stage will blow as much snow as an 8 hp two-stage.
Single stage snow blowers are not set-up to self-propel like the two-stage but the front auger system helps to pull the unit along. Very steep driveways usually don’t do well with a single stage for this reason.
Walkways and very small driveways a Toro Electric snow blower maybe the way to go. Depending on the unit you choose they can handle from 300lbs of snow per minute up to 700 lbs!
Of course you will have to have an electric cord attached but for the bit of inconvenience with the cord you won’t have to mess around with gas either.
